1. Introduction and Welcome

Thank you for your enquiry about Barnaby Bright Nursery.

Barnaby Bright Nursery was established in 1997 as a Registered Charity to provide a positive, stimulating and inspiring first school experience, at a sensible cost. To this end we brought together a highly qualified, experienced teaching team to operate "not-for-profit" under the generous wing of St.Barnabas Church. As such we can offer your child the quality of nursery education you demand at a  lower cost than other local independent nurseries.

The cornerstones of Barnaby Bright are:

1. Teaching style- learning through play - as advocated in the Early Years Foundation Stage and by the Pre School Learning Alliance. We nurture and encourage each child without "pushing".

2. Each child is treated as a unique individual and given opportunities to develop their own talents and receive individual help with areas of difficulty.

3. Team of practitioners - all are experiences abd well trained- who will educate and encourage your child.

4. Physical Environment - We have permanent use of our two classrooms and a dedicated and safe outdoor play area.

Barnaby Bright is registered under the Children Act with Wandsworth Borough Council, and is a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance. We are Ofsted registered and inspected. Our last inspection was in 2009 and found that the nursery was outstanding in all aspects.

We are a Registered Charity, no. 1068026

2. The Nursery

Barnaby Bright Nursery provides nursery education to children aged 2½ to 5 years. Places are offered on a "full time" basis (i.e. 5 morning sessions per week). However we can offer part time places to children in their first term with us to help them settle in, if required.  Under normal circumstances all those claiming the Nursery Education Grant (see fees) are required to attend  "full time". We believe that children benefit most fully both academically and socially when attending on a 'full time'basis.

We occupy the large Upper Hall of St. Barnabas Church, and have a separate quiet classroom. We  also have an outside garden play area, with a child friendly surface.

The school is open from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, weekdays during term time, with three terms per academic year (total of 33 weeks). From September 2010, the hours will be 9.30 am to 1.00 pm.

3. Curriculum

We use the latest Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which covers the child's learning journey in the following six areas:

* Personal, social and emotional development
* Communication, language and literacy
* Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
* Knowledge and understanding of the world
* Physical development
* Creative development

All the daily activities offered are relevant to a theme, which is chosen on a termly basis, but tailored to the interests and strengths of each child. Each theme is anchored in the learning goals of the core curriculum. Each session provides a choice of several different play-areas, to suit all abilities and preferences.
Literacy and numeracy are taught more formally to children in their final nursery year to help their transition to pre-prep or primary school.
In addition to daily activities, we also offer drama, dance and music.

During every session a healthy snack is served.
By participating in all sessions children will learn about themselves, respect others, gain independence and find out how the world works around them.

4. Parental Involvement

The participation and involvement of parents in the education of their children is essential. Parents are the prime educators of their children, and can bring a wealth of experiences to the school that can be shared by everyone.

We encourage regular discussions with teachers to ensure each child is content and progressing well.

Teaching staff are available at the start and end of every session to give feedback. Full written reports are sent home at the end of each academic year.

5. Policies

Our written policies on health and safety, safeguarding, equal opportunities, special needs, discipline and complaints procedures may be viewed on request.,
